Recommendations

The CIO should ensure that external facing servers and internal client applications that communicate with public internet servers are updated to IPv6-only to meet OMB requirements.

The CIO should ensure that the IRS has at least 50 percent of internet protocol-enabled assets on its network operating in IPv6-only environments by the end of FY 2024 as required by the OMB.

The CIO should use an automated process to identify and document in the official IRS asset management system a comprehensive inventory of all assets at the IRS.
