Meet the Inspector General

J. Russell George has served as the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) since November 2004. In that capacity, Inspector General George leads TIGTA’s oversight of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which includes independent audit and investigative services to improve the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of IRS operations. Mr. George also serves as a member of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee, whose mission is to promote transparency and provide coordinated oversight of the Federal Government’s coronavirus response. Mr. George received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Harvard University's School of Law in Cambridge, MA.
