Recommendations
The Commissioner, Wage and Investment Division, should ensure that the 1,128 accounts that did not receive the correct amount of the EITC and the 411 accounts that claimed the ACTC are reviewed and that taxpayers receive the proper amount of the credit to which they are entitled.
The Commissioner, Wage and Investment Division, should expand the IP PIN opt-in program to allow ITIN holders who are not automatically issued an IP PIN the option to obtain an IP PIN. The IRS should notify these individuals of the option to obtain an IP PIN and provide instructions on how to do so.
The Commissioner, Wage and Investment Division, should revise processes for issuing an IP PIN so that an IP PIN is automatically issued to ITIN holders who are confirmed victims of identity theft and who are not working under someone else's SSN.
