Man Indicted for Mailing Threatening Letters to Several Internal Revenue Service Facilities and to the United States Attorney’s Office in Scranton, Pennsylvania

On September 28, 2022, in the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Timothy Koebert, was indicted on six counts of mailing threatening communications to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) facilities and a United States Attorney’s office, and three counts of making threats to a law enforcement officer.

According to the court documents, in August 2021, Koebert mailed a threatening communication to the IRS facility in Ogden, Utah containing a threat to injure multiple unnamed victims.  Next, in October 2021, Koebert sent a threatening communication to the IRS facility in Austin, Texas, containing a threat to injure an unnamed female.  Then, in February 2022, Koebert again sent a threatening communication to the IRS facility in Ogden, Utah containing a threat to injure multiple unnamed victims.

In addition to the mailings sent to the IRS facilities, beginning in June 2022, Koebert sent threatening communications to the United States Attorney’s office in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  Koebert used the United States Postal Service to send his threatening communications to the IRS facilities and to the United States Attorney’s office in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  Koebert, is currently incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution in Dallas, Pennsylvania.

Koebert is scheduled for trial on November 7, 2022.  If convicted, Koebert could receive a maximum term of 63 years’ imprisonment.
