On February 22, 2023, in the District of Colorado, Wilbert Theodore was indicted on ten counts of uttering counterfeit obligations or securities of the United States and one count of aggravated identity theft. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Theodore.
According to the court documents, in June 2019, Theodore passed ten counterfeit United States Treasury Checks totaling $22,264 at multiple Walmart locations. In addition, Theodore used, without lawful authority, a means of identification of another person.
On August 7, 2023, Theodore was arrested and appeared before the court in the District of Colorado. Theodore entered a plea of not guilty and was ordered to be detained.
If convicted, Theodore could receive a maximum term of 20 years’ imprisonment for counts one through ten. He could also receive a fine of up to $250,000, three years’ supervised release, and a $100 special assessment. On count 11, Theodore could face two additional years of imprisonment. In addition, if convicted, Theodore shall forfeit all property derived from any proceeds of the scheme.
