Internal Revenue Service Employee Indicted for Filing False Tax Returns

On April 16, 2024, in the District of Massachusetts, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employee Amy Ndeye Thioub was indicted on three counts of filing a false tax return and three counts of filing a false tax return by an employee of the United States.

According to the charging documents, Thioub has been employed by the IRS since 2006. Thioub has extensive and specialized knowledge and training in accounting techniques, practices, and investigative audit techniques. She is also responsible for examining and resolving various tax issues of individuals and business organizations that may include extensive national and/or international subsidiaries.

The indictment alleges Thioub fraudulently claimed thousands of dollars in false business expenses for at least tax years 2017, 2018, and 2019. Specifically, Thioub is alleged to have filed a Schedule C claiming a net loss from a business. The net loss was carried over to her IRS Form 1040s and used to reduce Thioub’s adjusted gross income and ultimate tax liability. The Schedule C forms reported net business losses of $42,805 in 2017, $20,324 in 2018, and $27,063 in 2019.
