On February 21, 2023, in the Eastern District of California, Margarita Aispuro-Camacho pleaded guilty to illegally selling morphine and contributing to the death of her co-worker at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
According to the court documents, Aispuro-Camacho was a clerk at the IRS. In May 2020, she sold her own prescribed morphine pills to one of her co-workers. The next day, the co-worker died from an overdose of the morphine provided by Aispuro-Camacho, and other prescription drugs the co-worker obtained from other sources. Aispuro-Camacho had previously sold her own morphine and her other prescription drugs to the co-worker on at least five prior occasions.
At sentencing, Aispuro-Camacho faces 20 years’ imprisonment and a $1,000,000 fine.
