Washington Woman Arrested for Her Role in Negotiating Stolen Treasury Checks

On April 4, 2022, in the Western District of Washington, Farrel Paddio was arrested for her role in a scheme to negotiate stolen income tax refund checks issued by the United States Department of the Treasury. The arrest was made after indictment and pursuant to a Federal arrest warrant. According to the court documents, beginning on an unknown date and continuing until in or about September 2018, within the Western District of Washington and elsewhere, Paddio executed a scheme to unjustly enrich herself by fraudulently negotiating or otherwise forging stolen checks. Paddio converted two United States Treasury income tax refund checks, which she was not entitled, to her personal use. Paddio deposited both stolen United States Treasury income tax refund checks to her personal bank accounts, totaling $28,198. Paddio was indicted for bank fraud and theft of public funds on February 9, 2022, and a Federal warrant was issued for her arrest.

If convicted, Paddio could receive a maximum of 30 years’ imprisonment, ordered to pay $28,198 in restitution, and a fine of not more than $1,000,000.
