Man Indicted for his Role in U.S. Treasury Check Fraud

On December 13, 2023, in the District of Idaho, Daniel Rodriguez was indicted for one count of bank fraud, one count of forging endorsements on Treasury checks, and one count of theft of government property.

In February 2023, Rodriguez obtained a stolen U.S. Treasury Check in the amount of $105,615.71, issued to a victim company. He then registered a business entity using the name of the victim company with the Idaho Secretary of State. Rodriguez additionally obtained an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Employer Identification Number (EIN), in the name of the victim company. Using the documents obtained from the Idaho Secretary of State and the EIN he obtained from the IRS, Rodriguez opened a business checking account at a financial institution under the name of the victim company. He deposited the stolen U.S. Treasury Check into the newly opened bank account held under victim company’s name and endorsed the back of the U.S. Treasury Check with the name of the victim company, his signature, and the title, “CEO-Owner.” After depositing the stolen U.S. Treasury Check, Rodriguez contacted the bank on several occasions in an effort to withdraw the funds.
