Woman Steals over $100,000 from the U.S. Department of the Treasury

In June 2026, in the District of Idaho, Dianna Johnson was sentenced to time served and five years of supervised release for bank fraud. The court ordered Johnson to pay $109,657.31 in restitution to the financial institutions.

According to court records, Johnson obtained three stolen U.S. Department of the Treasury checks totaling $109,657.31. Two checks were federal tax refund payments. Johnson deposited the checks, which had been altered to show herself as the payee, into bank accounts she held at two financial institutions. Johnson quickly withdrew the funds, mostly by cash withdrawals, purchase of cashier’s checks, transfers to other bank accounts, and CashApp transactions.
